Artificial Intelligence and Communication Laboratory

Founded in April 2026

A lab integrating artificial intelligence and communication technologies to advance science, engineering, and society.

About the AIC Lab

The Artificial Intelligence and Communication (AIC) Lab, led by Associate Professor Cheng Tang, explores the convergence of artificial intelligence and communication technologies to build intelligent systems for the future.

Communication networks have traditionally served as the infrastructure for connecting people, devices, and information. At the same time, rapid advances in artificial intelligence are transforming the way these networks are designed, operated, and utilized. Rather than viewing AI and communication technologies as separate disciplines, we regard them as mutually reinforcing technologies that continuously drive each other's evolution.

Our research focuses on creating intelligent communication systems in which networking, computation, and machine intelligence are tightly integrated. By combining AI algorithms, communication infrastructures, sensing technologies, and data-driven modeling, we develop intelligent foundations capable of supporting adaptive, reliable, and human-centered systems across diverse real-world environments.

More specifically, we conduct research on AI for communications, communications for AI, medical AI, time-series intelligence, network intelligence, edge intelligence, and AI for Science. Through these efforts, we aim to establish next-generation intelligent infrastructures that seamlessly connect cyberspace and the physical world, enabling trustworthy and sustainable applications in healthcare, industry, and society.

Message to Students

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape our society, we believe that truly valuable research is not only about developing new AI algorithms, but also about creating intelligent systems that work reliably in the real world.

In our laboratory, we combine artificial intelligence with communication technologies to build systems that can sense, understand, and support people in diverse environments. We study AI, communication, and data together, and transform research ideas into practical solutions for healthcare, science, industry, and society.

What we value most is not simply publishing papers or building systems. We value the entire research process: asking meaningful questions, thinking independently, implementing ideas, validating them through experiments, and continuously improving them. Through this process, we hope students develop both scientific thinking and engineering skills.

Research is also a collaborative journey. We encourage open discussion, mutual support, and learning through trial and error. Rather than fearing failure, we see it as an essential step toward innovation.

If you are excited by artificial intelligence, inspired by real-world challenges, and eager to create technologies that make a positive impact on society, we warmly welcome you to join our laboratory.
